Nutrition & Hydration Are Key to You Finishing Your Rounds Strong

How often have you said, “I left a few out there” to your buddies at the 19th hole? I know that I have (and my friends are tired of hearing it too) and learning to finish your rounds strong and SHOOT LOWER SCORES is important. Nutrition (and properly taking care of your body) is the BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR ROUNDS.

The single MOST IMPORTANT PIECE to playing better golf (in terms of your body) is WATER. According to the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. THAT MEANS YOU NEED TO STAY HYDRATED THROUGHOUT!

Robert Yang, TPI discusses the importance of nutrition to playing better golf. Many people don’t realize that golfing is a strenuous activity (less so if you’re riding in a cart) and requires healthy calories to make sure you are able to finish your rounds properly. You need fuel to keep your car running, so why is your body different. MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY FUEL YOUR BODY THROUGHOUT YOUR ROUND!

Using my WHOOP strap I was able to track my most recent tournament round (MGA State Mid-Amateur Qualifier) and I burned 1,367 CALORIES (while riding). By eating healthy snacks (i.e., beef jerky, Rx Bars, peanuts, etc) and drinking ample water (~70 ounces) I was able to hold together my round and shoot a 73 (Par 70) to qualify for the Championship proper.
